Are You Interested in Getting the Best Individual Health Insurance?

By : Vikram Kumar

Do you want to get the highest level of individual health insurance coverage? Are you unsure about what your options are or how they differ from one another? If you are interested in getting the best individual medical insurance quote for your family, you need to know a bit about how the insurance industry works and the differences between the different individual health insurance providers.

You need to be aware that regardless of what provider you choose for your individual health insurance, there will be costs. The key is to keeping the costs as low as possible while getting the most coverage for your expenses. You will always be expected to pay a premium, a monthly or annual payment given to the health care provider in return for coverage. There are also co-pays, which are the portions of each bill you cover yourself. Some health insurance plans will also make you pay a deductible. This is the amount that must be paid by you before the company will begin to cover your bills. The different rates that you may pay will differ from plan to plan.

There are also three main types of health insurance providers. They are Health Maintenance Organizations, Preferred Provider Organizations and Point of Service Providers. Health Maintenance Organizations have the lowest premiums and you may not need to pay deductibles. You will need to select a primary care physician and get referrals to visit specialists. This may make people think they are not the best individual medical insurance provider for you. This may be compounded when you realise that an HMO may not cover expenses from providers outside your HMO unless they were the result of an emergency. But their coverage of routine medical costs and lower expenses may make them the best individual medical insurance option for your family.

A Preferred Provider Organization does not require you to pick a primary care physician and you may not need a referral to see a specialist. This type of health insurance provider also requires you to pay a deductible and your premiums will also be higher than with an HMO. If you have many routine appointments, this may not be the best individual medical insurance plan for you. With a PPO you can select medical care outside of the list of Doctors and Hospitals chosen by your health insurance provider. Although your co-pays and deductibles may be even higher, this flexibility makes people like them.

A third alternative is a Point of Service Provider. You lose some of the flexibility of a PPO but your costs are lower, more in line with those of an HMO. You will have deductibles and co-pays but they may be lower, making some people think that this is the best individual medical insurance for themselves as well as the members of their family.

Learning about your options for individual health insurance and getting a free quote from a company like R. Curtis Insurance can help you protect your family. Your best individual health insurance may not be the same as that for other individuals. Research can help you narrow down your options.
